Thai HIV Vaccine Trial – Who Did They Test It On?

25 years on and there is finally a glimmer of hope in the battle against HIV.
A Thai HIV vaccine trial on 2,000 subjects has come back with a 30 % protection rate. That is an amazing breakthrough and work will no doubt be stepped up off of the back of this success. Couple that with the most critical aspect in my humble view – education! – and we may be able to win the war one day.
..but.. what puzzles me about the days events, is who exactly volunteers for a HIV trial…and how exactly do you go about trying to contract the virus….

I’ve seen the headlines for this but actually have yet to read the article. But I spent time in Thailand and there is a lot of prostitution there which results in a lot of HIV cases between customers and prostitutes. In a lot of cases men are getting it from prostitues and then passing it on to their sadly unsuspecting wives. Anyway, perhaps they just used it on prostitutes? I’ll have to read the whole story later tonight.
