Who else remembers the days when you could talk the manager of Currys into a small discount “for cash”, walking out of the shop with your Sony Walkman thinking you were a haggler extraordinaire?

Step back to the future (more nostalgia there, totally intended!) and it’s technology that wins the day.

The weekend’s Christmas shopping trip is a prime example. I’d headed back to the modern day Currys armed with my free iPhone at the ready. Yeah, due to the powers of the Internet, I’d used incentive rewards marketing to get a 3GS for nothing, unlocked and Sim free. Sorry, back to the story…

So, I toddle off to the coffee machine section and pick out a Krups Dolce Gusto. A cool piece of machinery indeed but pricey at £119.99. Never fear, out comes the iPhone, load up the free Amazon app and scan the Dolce Gusto barcode….voilà, the exact product appears for a bargain £49.99, with Prime delivery available.

Ordered on Saturday, delivered today and £70 saved, all due to my free iPhone. Priceless!

Every time I see one of Apple’s stunning iPad adverts, I truly struggle to resist the urge to go out and get me one. That’s despite the fact that I owned one briefly.

I was lucky that it was a free iPad that I’d claimed from Freebiejeebies. Even then, the simple fact is that however impressive a bit of kit the iPad is, there is no way that it will replace the iPhone (which I also got free!) and laptop combo that I have come to know and love.

If I’m in the home, then the laptop can do so much more than it’s tablet counterpart. Step outside and I have Apple’s number one smartphone to service my every need. It even makes calls and sends texts, why would I want to buy an iPad contract on a flimsy dongle!

Even as I write this there’s a bit of me that wants to run off to Freebiejeebies and claim another iPad free but I know that it would soon be back on eBay. The money would come in handy of course!

If anything, I will be stepping up my campaign to bag another free iPhone, maybe the iPhone 4S this time. That would make a nice Christmas gift to myself!

Steve

Five years of incentive marketing has brought me almost £100,000 of revenue but I’ve never quite managed to break into the Worldwide market.

My main source of income has been Freebiejeebies, who are dominant in the UK and have shipped over a £1 million of free gifts. The good news is that they now extend to USA and order/ship directly from major retailers such as Apple and Amazon.

If you are a US resident and fancy a free iPhone 4, iPad or MacBook, then pay Freebiejeebies a visit and find out what you are missing.

There are plenty of free offers to participate in – I’d recommend the Intuit or Credit Report free trials – all you need to do is put in a bit of effort!

Qualcomm CDMA-GSM chip will enable next-generation tablet to run on most cellular networks in U.S., Europe and Asia.

Apple plans to launch early next year a second-generation free iPad that’s thinner and capable of running on cellular networks worldwide, according to media reports.

The next free iPad will reportedly include a Qualcomm chip that makes it possible to run the 3G version of the tablet-style computer on CDMA and GSM cellular networks. Such a move would make it possible for the device to run on the cellular networks of the four major U.S. wireless carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as on the networks of carriers in Europe and Asia.

“Recent checks suggest Apple is going to be ratcheting down production of the existing 3G iPad over the next two months in anticipation of ramping up a new World iPad that is powered by Qualcomm and will run on both GSM- and CDMA-based networks around the world,” said Brian Blair, analyst for Wedge Partners, as cited Friday by The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital.

Blair said that his recent Qualcomm channel checks also reveal that Apple is preparing to build about 48 million iPads next year and that the devices will be thinner than the current model. To reduce the thickness, Apple is making the new iPad out of a single piece of metal, essentially adopting a manufacturing process similar to what it uses for its uni body MacBooks.

Apple doesn’t comment on future products. However, Ezra Gottheil, analyst for Technology Business Research, told Information Week that the report makes sense, given Apple’s long-time strategy of avoiding the production of several versions of the free iPhone to run on networks based on different standards. In the U.S., for example, the iPhone has only run on AT&T’s network since its release in 2007, though a Verizon version is reportedly near completion.

“It certainly makes sense for Apple to produce a run-anywhere product,” Gottheil says of the iPad report. “Apple always wants a definitive, single product.”

The news is full of talk about the iPhone 4 and it’s poor reception. Apple finally bowed to consumer pressure and are offering a free iPhone 4 “band-aid” to solve the issue.

However, let’s not forget that before you need the fix, you have to shell out an arm and a leg to get the iPhone 4 itself. Like apple, Simplyfreeiphone is offering a free solution…a free iPhone 4. Go grab yours now!

Turning back to the free iPhone 4 band fix, it is clear that Apple’s squeaky clean image has taken a bit of a hit and its shares are down 7 percent since the end of June 2010. They current stand at $245.58 on NASDAQ.

“We believe Apple accomplished its objective of addressing the iPhone 4 antenna issues to its customers and, more importantly, relieving the excitement levels and tension with the press,” BMO Capital Markets analyst Keith Bachman wrote in a research report.

“While we expect the debate to continue, we believe the company’s response should begin to lower the rampant criticism emanating from the media-driven frenzy,” J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz said in a note to clients.

We don’t imagine a recall will be needed but a permanent fix surely has to come with future models.

Rest assured that whatever they bring out, we will make sure you can get a free iPhone. Watch this space!

Apple are congratulating themselves on what they are calling their most successful launch and claim they could have sold more iPhone 4 deals had stock been available. 1.7 million in a matter of days is nothing short of a miracle given the state of the economy but it just goes to show the power of Steve Job’s marketing machine. Even the 3G and 3GS only sold 1 million in the days after release.

Perhaps, given those volumes, the teething problems that some users have experienced were inevitable. Were similar problems encountered with the 3G or 3Gs or even the iPad though? Not that we can recall, so is the iPhone 4 release really a total success if you move away from the numbers? On balance, the answer has to be yes, the iPhone 4 is one heck of a bit of kit.

iPhone 4 deals are currently available ?n th? United Kingdom on Vodafone (Vodafone iPhone), Orange (Orange iPhone) & O2 (O2 iPhone). We’ve previously questioned why T-Mobile and 3 network haven’t stepped up to the plate but will let you know as soon as they announce their iPhone deals.

As ever, we should also remind you that the best iPhone 4 deal is right here in front of you. Why not grab a free iPhone 4, sim free, no contract. Simples!

Skype has finally added 3G calls to its free iPhone app, although the service will only be free to iPhone users for a short while, with plans to charge users from August.

Skype 2.0 is now available for download or update over on the iTunes App Store. So you can now make Skype calls on the go, wherever you are. (Well, providing you have a solid 3G signal, of course!)

But Skype needs to make some money, just like the rest of us, so the free 3G calls will only be trialled through till August.

TechRadar has contacted Skype in the UK to find out more about the plans for launching this new service in August and also to ascertain exactly how much the “small monthly fee” is going to be for Skype-to-Skype calls after August.

What’s new in Skype 2.0? Still. For now, it’s free. So fill your boots! What’s new in the latest version?

This is:

- Call using your 3G connection. Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until at least end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply).
- Near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wideband audio (SILK codec) on iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation free iPod touch.
- Enhanced call quality indicator.
- Improved start-up time.
- Fast access to the dial pad from free iPhone home screen.

Via Techradar UK
