Every time I see one of Apple’s stunning iPad adverts, I truly struggle to resist the urge to go out and get me one. That’s despite the fact that I owned one briefly.

I was lucky that it was a free iPad that I’d claimed from Freebiejeebies.  Even then, the simple fact is that however impressive a bit of kit the iPad is, there is no way that it will replace the iPhone (which I also got free!) and laptop combo that I have come to know and love.

If I’m in the home, then the laptop can do so much more than it’s tablet counterpart.  Step outside and I have Apple’s number one smartphone to service my every need.  It even makes calls and sends texts, why would I want to buy an iPad contract on a flimsy dongle!

Even as I write this there’s a bit of me that wants to run off to Freebiejeebies and claim another iPad free but I know that it would soon be back on eBay.  The money would come in handy of course!

If anything, I will be stepping up my campaign to bag another free iPhone, maybe the iPhone 4S this time.   That would make a nice Christmas gift to myself!

Five years of incentive marketing has brought me almost £100,000 of revenue but I’ve never quite managed to break into the Worldwide market.

Qualcomm CDMA-GSM chip will enable next-generation tablet to run on most cellular networks in U.S., Europe and Asia.

Apple plans to launch early next year a second-generation free iPad that’s thinner and capable of running on cellular networks worldwide, according to media reports.

The next free iPad will reportedly include a Qualcomm chip that makes it possible to run the 3G version of the tablet-style computer on CDMA and GSM cellular networks. Such a move would make it possible for the device to run on the cellular networks of the four major U.S. wireless carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as on the networks of carriers in Europe and Asia.

“Recent checks suggest Apple is going to be ratcheting down production of the existing 3G iPad over the next two months in anticipation of ramping up a new World iPad that is powered by Qualcomm and will run on both GSM- and CDMA-based networks around the world,” said Brian Blair, analyst for Wedge Partners, as cited Friday by The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital.

Blair said that his recent Qualcomm channel checks also reveal that Apple is preparing to build about 48 million iPads next year and that the devices will be thinner than the current model. To reduce the thickness, Apple is making the new iPad out of a single piece of metal, essentially adopting a manufacturing process similar to what it uses for its uni body MacBooks.

Apple doesn’t comment on future products. However, Ezra Gottheil, analyst for Technology Business Research, told Information Week that the report makes sense, given Apple’s long-time strategy of avoiding the production of several versions of the free iPhone to run on networks based on different standards. In the U.S., for example, the iPhone has only run on AT&T’s network since its release in 2007, though a Verizon version is reportedly near completion.

“It certainly makes sense for Apple to produce a run-anywhere product,” Gottheil says of the iPad report. “Apple always wants a definitive, single product.”

I’m pleased to say that I’m the new owner of the domain Giveaway.co.uk. The domain used to host Giveaway Network the UK’s largest incentive rewards site, offering free gifts such as a free iPhone and free iPad) but that came to a sad end. I’m not going to dwell on that other than to say that I am in no way associated with the old business, this is now all me, and all new.

It must be iPad Remote Week because hot on the heels of Apple releasing iTunes remote control for the iPad, Sonos has delivered a very nice, free iPad remote that is feature complete, and elegant in execution.

Previously, Sonos owners had to make do with the free iPhone 4 version of the app, which only ran in portrait mode and had to upscale to fill the iPad screen. That’s all fixed now, with the delivery of the Sonos Controller for iPad. It is a pleasure to use. The larger iPad screen means most functions are right on the front page, so there’s no hunting around for hidden functions. You get album art, zone control, and music source selection at the tap of a finger.

Installing the app requires a software update to all your home controllers and Zone Players to version 3.3. That can be accomplished right from the new iPad remote, and the software will notify you if you need to update.

The 3.3 update adds support for AAC streaming radio stations, and for European countries, it adds the popular Spotify service. The iPhone version of the Sonos app has not been updated since May, and Sonos says an update to that app is pending approval from Apple.

The Sonos system is not inexpensive, but it is a bargain compared to wired whole-house systems. For your investment, you get a very easy to set up entertainment centre that you can add to as your desires dictate. The audio is very high quality, and the company commitment to the Mac platform is very strong.

Gone are the days when Apple took seven to ten days to send out the iPad. That doesn’t sound long but a watched clock always seems to stop, particularly when it is such an amazing piece of kit that you are waiting for.

Apple have just announced that online orders will be fulfilled within 24 hours. That includes all of the model range, notably the Wi-Fi versions.

Shipping time is one thing but the cost hasn’t come down. Never fear though, as we reported earlier in the year, Gadgets4nowt is promoting an iPad giveaway that means you can get an iPad for free with a minimum of effort.
