S.E.O. Or Trial And Error

seo

OK, so I can hardly pretend that I spent my formative years with access to PCs and the Internet but I get by fairly well.   That is, until it comes to search engine rankings!

The Web is littered with promises of top spots in the hallowed ground that is Google but does anyone truly know what Search Engine Optimisation (“SEO”) is really all about?   I have one or two sites in top spots after months of work but the problem is that those followed months of trial and error with a bit of logic thrown in.

Take the search term “free iPod” for example.   I did very little work and held top spot for months in Google UK.   I have now dropped and have no idea what to do to redress the balance.   The same applies to “free gifts“.

So, back to the trial and error drawing board for me!

I have been trying to get my site up their recently, i dont realy know what im doing, but its not going too badly i dont think. I seem to be on the first page for free iphone 4G, but as its not even out yet, and might not even be called that, its not realy much to be proud about, But its the best ranking ive ever managed, lets just hope it is called the 4G.

When I started my site I thought this shouldn’t be too difficult. When I did some research and did a few checks on the amount of back links top ranking sites had it dawned on me that it would be extremely difficult as so many people in this niche had such a head start. Not to mention google could change it’s algorithm as it has in the past, then where would anyone be?

Its definitely a lot of art and science and because every market is going to have its own uniqueness you kind of have to figure out your own recipe of what works, or at least that’s what I have found, especially since I have gotten more focused in a primary market and stopped trying to seo things I didn’t have a solid grounding in.
