PS3 Slim vs Xbox – Or have them both?
Category: My Ramblings, PS3
For the first time in decades, gamers have the opportunity to pay the same amount for very similar competing consoles: just $299 for the powerful PS3 Slim or the impressive Xbox 360 Elite. Both come equipped with 120GB hard drives, limited backwards compatibility, and one controller.
The PS3 Slim has the ability to play Blu-Ray discs, huge to anime and movie buffs, and also includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth – definitely winning the hardware comparisons. The only place that the PS3 Slim falls behind is in the number of available USB ports – it boasts only 2 vs. the Xbox’s 3. But it’s smaller, lighter, and the online-play option is free (it’s $50 a year for the Xbox Elite.)
On the other hand, the Xbox 360 Elite has something that the PS3 lacks — GAMES. The PS3 has some impressive titles — Final Fantasy XIII, Genji: Days of the Blade, Grand Tourismo 5, Heavenly Sword, and Jak and Dexter: The Last Frontier are all PS3 exclusive. Don’t leave out the ba-jillion PS1 games that the PS3 is backwards-compatible with, too! But that’s just not really a list that’s able to compete with the powerhouse that is the Xbox 360 Elite’s massive list of over 175 exclusive games, including Bullet Witch, DDR Universe 1, 2, and 3, Dead Or Live: Code Chronos, Full Auto, the Halo series, the Project Gotham Racing franchise, the bizarrely fun Viva Piñata games, and many, many more. Let’s not also forget that, while Xbox Live is pricer than the PS3 Slim’s alternative, it’s also much, much more robust.
In the end, the comparison comes down to a matter of faith: if you’re willing to trust Sony to use it’s resources to come up with games that are good enough to match wits with Gears of War (Uncharted?), Mass Effect (Fallout?) and the rest of the Xbox 360 Elite’s lineup, than the PS3 Slim seems like a good move. If you’re more inclined to believe that the software giant Microsoft can use it’s leet skillz to overcome the hardware gap between the Elite and it’s competition, go with the Xbox 360 Elite.
Me, I’m going for both, but I’m crazy that way (and can get them free here !)

alright this site is obviously skewed.
the conclusion that the ps3 has no games is ridiculous.
its considered to have the better fall lineup this year by several game sites.
this year alone the ps3 has released critically acclaimed exclusives such as killzone 2, infamous, and mlb 09: the show.
this fall the ps3 exclusives are uncharted 2, gran turismo 5 ratchet and clank, demon souls, god of war collection, and eyepet (a game that revolves around the ps3 camera.
also their are past games that are on the greatest hit list that gamers can pick up cheap that are exclusive the the ps3 such as
metal gear solid 4, resistance 1+2, ratchetr and clank, uncharted 1, littlebigplanet, etc.
clearly the ps3 HAS PLENTY OF GAMES.
xbox has good games also but this author is downplaying fantastic titles that are already out and about to be released this year.
xbox has games???
hey maybe exclusive but they are all unknown half the games you have mentioned there dont get much over a 7 on any reviews site apart form halo series and gears of war
the ps3 has just as many good games Killzone 2, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Hevanly Sword, Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Resistance Series, Infamous, Wipeout Hd, Fat Princess And Warhawk Take A Look At Any Of THose Games ( Bar THe PSN ones ) And tell me if they are rubbish
not to mention that by half way through 2010 we will have a ton more fantastic games Grand Turismo 5, Uncharted 2 God Of WAr 1&2 Remastered, Tekken 6, Ratchet And Clank , Heavy Rain ,Mag God Of War 3 ,White Knight Chronicles
And Ive Probably Forgot Some
AND TO MAKE IT EVEN WORSE
The Multiplatforms Coming Out this Year Make Any Console WOrth Owning But SInce The PS3 Has Such A better List Of Well..EVERYTHING you Might Aswell get That
Modern WArfare 2
Assasins Creed 2
Batman Arkham Asylum (Which Has The Joker DLC For Ps3 Which Is Never Coming TO Xbox Because Sony Paid FOr It)
Psn Is Free While Lacking Some Features Give Sony A Few Months And It Will Be On Par With Xbox Live Which Woll Make Xbox Live Seem So Shit As You Are Paying FOr SOmething PS3 Owners Get For Free
WHen s COmes To Specs Ps3 Blows Xbox Out Of The Water WIth Everything THe Xbox Has The Ps # Has ANd Better. Your Probably Now Saying THat the elite package comes with more stuff but am i not right in saying that the headset is a cheap piece of rubbish as i have seen many forums with xbox users complainig of thas and have had friends who have also said theres have broke
when it comes to reliability we are both beaten by the wii but ps3 problem is no way as big as the xbox problem
i still have my launch ps3 which has had no problems but it almost seems mandatory for xbox owners to change their xbox every few years
face it the only reason for people to buy an xbox is because in the uk it is 50.00 cheaper than the ps3 and retails for 200.00 while the ps3 is 250.00
The comment that the PS3 has no games would have been fine in 2007. It’s 2009. That don’t fly anymore.
The PS3 has had the highest rated games between the two MGS4 and Littlebigplanet over the past two years. And in 2009 the 360 hasn’t had anything except muli-platform SFIV and some nice XBL titles like Shadow Complex. Sony has been dominating them in quality multi-plats and exclusives about 9 months into this year. So WTF are you saying it has no games? Xbox 360 has no games lol based off the facts.
I think the person who wrote this article should be ashamed of themselves with such blatantly wrong information. The PS3′s current game library is on par if not better than the Xbox 360′s. I think the “PS3 doesn’t have a lot of games” statement would be most valid when the system launched and your list of PS3 exclusives is basically non existant, you’ve only listed 3. I’ve never even played Genji but that was like a launch title or something. Final Fantasy XIII is not a PS3 exclusive and Jak and Daxter(Not Dexter as you wrote): The Lost Frontier is a PS2/PSP game.
Like someone else said, this article isn’t serious. Most fanboys will get stuck at the argument the the ps3 has no game (which is false of course) but it’s really not the most ridiculous thing you can read in there. Look at this:
“massive list of over 175 exclusive games, including Bullet Witch, DDR Universe 1, 2, and 3, Dead Or Live: Code Chronos, Full Auto”
Huh… what?! Bullet Witch, DDR, Full Auto?! Anyone who is remotely interested in gaming knows these are not exactly the best examples to give and they’re not even close…
“Final Fantasy XIII, Genji: Days of the Blade, Grand Tourismo 5, Heavenly Sword, and Jak and Dexter: The Last Frontier are all PS3 exclusive”
Sure… but how about coming up with a list that includes more released games than unreleased ones? I mean, it’s not like Uncharted, Killzone, MGS4 on Ratchet can’t be used as examples… And if they’re willing to include Full Auto in the xbox list, why not include Motor Storm…
Anyway, I’ve already spent too much time on an article that was designed specifically designed to waste people’s time in useless arguments… I know people read comment sections AFTER reading the article so I won’t save anything here… but anyway…
Don’t you understand that “PS3 has no games” has been a rediculous statement since Fall 2007?
2007 brough Motorstorm, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Uncharted, The Eye of Judgment, and what might as well be called exclusive….Unreal Tournament 3 with PC Mod support. It’s only gotten better from there, and quality has continued to get better and better. Which is amazing considering how high quality those 2007 games are.
360 no doubt has a larger exclusive library. But as was said, there’s alot of shovelware in there with a handfull of really awesome exclusives. PS3 on the other Hand may have a smaller exclusive library (but still very large), but the thing is, they are all incredibly high quality games. Some of the highest quality games on the entire gaming market. Out of the entire PS3 exclusive library, there have been 3 flops I can think of. Gundum Crossfire, LAIR, and btw I LOVE Lair as a Panzer Dragon fan. and HAZE. What other PS3 exclusives have genuinely flopped? None that I can recall.
.-= LarryL´s last blog ..Vehicle CTF Map – Hanging Gardens =-.
I have both and I prefer the ps3. I buy all my non exclusive games for the playstation 3. As a matter a fact I only have about 5 games for the xbox 360 and 27 for the playstation 3. The last game I bought for the xbox 360 was Gears of War2 the same week it came out and I didnt even like it, the first Gears of War was definitley better. Anyways what I am saying is that playstation is without a doubt better.
It is also more bang for your buck. With the playstation 3 you can use the internet, listen to cds or sacds, you can watch dvds and blu-ray, you can play online for free, you can rent or buy with games and movies on the PSN, you can also use playstation home to meet new people and have fun with friends, and now that the console only cost 300 bucks with a new and more economical and improved package that doesnt need a external power source.
I also have a question. How is the xbox 360 an HD console when it needs an external hd player and uses dvds when you need a blu-ray or hd-dvd disc to be able play HD? Does the xbox 360 upconvert the games or what.
both.
one as a paper weight and one to play my games on.
nah jokes.
they both have some really good games, the ps3 has more this year and by the looks of it next year.
but i simply can not live without gears 2, and splinter cell conviction.
The article may have been skewed but it was always intended to fuel debate. Given the comments, I think the tone was about right.
I really like the new version of the xbox 360. It looks alot better and it is alot less noisy! Also, my family and I love the Kinect!!
