Work and the World Cup football have got in the way of me having much time on the iPad since it arrived on Saturday but my initial thoughts are positive.My wife, who is technophobic, and daughter, who desperately wants her own iPad, are both impressed too, which is always a good thing!
Let’s not forget that it is a free iPad so I am not influenced by the cost. If I had to pay the full £400+, then my views may be completely different.
The Good
The iPad looks and feels stunning, everything you would expect of an Apple product.
As an iPhone user, navigation and use is a breeze.
With a dedicated processor banging away at the core, everything is amazingly fast. Web pages load in an instant and switching between apps takes seconds. This is clearly one of the benefits over laptops and notebooks, which quickly get slowed down by the OS and added software.
The iPad screen is something to behold. Images, videos and books (which some reviewers criticised) are stunningly crisp and clear.
My initial impression is that the iPad is robust. I have not dropped it to test but imagine it will withstand a few knocks.
The official Apple iPad case gives that extra protection and doubles as a stand, allowing the iPad to be stood up or raised to aid reading or use as a digital photo frame.
Apps, apps and more apps. Enough said.
The Not So Good
I talked about the speed of the iPad but the trade off is lack of multi-tasking. It is a tad annoying to have to close down one app to use another one
The iPad has no Flash support. That is a major disappointment for me as an avid BBC iPlayer user. Total madness.
I’ll add more as I get to grips with the iPad and add more apps, set-up email and so forth but as things stand, reiterating that I got the iPad for free, it is well worth every penny I didn’t spend
