iPhone Rankings Drop – Call The SEO Police!
Category: My Ramblings, SEO & Web Design
SEO is a funny old game…..
A couple of years ago I would never have imagined that success in Google could depend on the colour of the hat you are wearing, whether that was likely to fade in the wash or the danger of sand in a box.
Nor did I know my PR from my SEO or SERPs or even how to avoid a penalty (which anyone English knows we are notorious bad at – damn German precision!)
Then, out of nowhere, my T&L (trial and error!) style of “optimisation” seemed to pay off and I hit number one spot for various terms. Probably my biggest achievements were ranking in the top six of Google UK for “iPhone” and “PS3” amongst several hundred million results.
However, this isn’t a Hollywood blockbuster with limited story and a happy ending. Well, not yet anyway.
I am now at position 21 at the top of page 3 for “iPhone” and the trouble with T&L…..you don’t have a damn clue which bit was the most successful.
Back to the drawing board!

It certainly doesn’t help that I seem to be on the wrong side of Akismet, so backlinks from blog comments are fairly limited. Darn it!
SEO is a very weird thing, you never know what works best
It is definitely a difficult thing to keep on top. I have been bouncing around the first page for many of my search terms for a while.
Ranking in the tip 6 for iphone, thats amazing, i would of though it would be just like apple, O2 wikepedia up there.
Im trying my best to understand this SEO stuff, it all seems very complicated, it doesnt seem to be going to badly at the moment though, atleast im on the first page, (for a very non competative phrase at the moment)
It seems like you got back to page1 for iPhone Steve, well done – the added bonus is your the only one there that’s offering a FREE iPhone in and amongst all the big networks. Must be great
Grr, SEO is so frustrating!
I once got to number 9 for iPhone, just before my penalty hit.
To borrow some famous words…I’ll be back!
I think I am going to try and focus on some terms that are not as competitive and see how I go from there. Anything freebie related on google page one is my goal at the moment. Just got to think what term now..
