Find out if you are blocked by Akismet

**This was a popular and relevant post for a good while but seems to have founds it’s way to a Scrapebox list. I’m spending half an hour a day reading comments that haven’t been caught as spam (on top of the 500 a day that have been) and it just isn’t a good use of my time. A shame to do it but I really have no option but to close comments**
Since I started this WordPress blog, I’ve seen the genuine benefits of using Akismet to defeat the hoards of spammers out there.
Unfortunately, I’ve also witnessed a number of false positives, most of which have included a sufficiently lengthy and relevant comment. I can only assume that the URL linked to the poster’s name is on a blacklist.
What worries me is that the same posters get flagged time and time again despite the fact that I have approved their comments. Does Akismet not review false positives and modify its blacklist?
If you think you are falling foul of Akismet, then post here. If the comment doesn’t show, then you are caught….but I will approve all appropriate comments to see if that helps (a couple of lines without a link in the body of the comment should do it).
Alternatively, you can always contact Askimet to ask to be removed from the blacklist. Good luck with that!
EDIT: 8th December 2010 – I’m overwhelmed by the number of people who have found this post useful, a big thanks to all of you. The irony is that it has also attracted more spam posts in itself than the rest of the blog combined. Spammers spamming a post about spam detection, now that is funny!

I have experienced this problem and have asked to be taken off the blacklist but without success. Very frustrating, I have only ever made relevant comments.
I wonder if I will have any more luck today!

Never heard of that before. I don’t think I would be . Could whoever owns a domain previously get it banned? then the new owner unwittingly ends up with it.

I’m trying to figure out if one of my sites is block or not. Does this come in your spam filter or in the regular inbox. I’ve been making comments and a lot times they don’t show up.

What does it mean when I post on a wordpress blog and hit the post comment button and I get redirected to a blank page. I don’t get redirected back to the blog to see my post, it’s just an empty blank page. I just tried a blog today where this has happened tome. I has happened to me on several blogs.

Today, I read a very helpful post and it helped me a lot. I posted a long comment to express my “thanks” to the author, and when I pressed the button “submit”, I just got a totally blank screen. I was a little frustrated.
I had no idea about that, so I did a lot of research on “wp-comments-post.php” and finally find your post which you offer a test for us. Thank you so much for this. Please let me know I was blocked or not?

I think I’m banned. The funiest part is that in 2 years i made maybe 5-8 comments to other peoples blogs and those were relevant, contributing to discussion comments

Good idea! I’m curious if my comments get blocked sometimes because I get SOOO much spam in email and on my blog, and the spammers are using my email address. So I wonder if my url is getting nailed by Akismet for this same reason. Anyway, thanks for the help.

I also noticed that “unspaming” comment does not change anything. Maybe you need a certain number of “unspam” from many different blogs ?

I’m trying to find out if my IP is banned by Akismet. I didn’t read where I could find out.
Akismet works so good that it even banned a test comment on my own blog. Now how many other comments are put in the spam folder by “accident”. Contacting Akismet is absolutely a waste of time, they don’t take time to take you off their blacklist is some jealous blogger or a competitor sent your comment to spam and you were added to Aksimet’s blacklist automatically.
Fighting spam is fine but if this tool can be used to kick a competitor out of the field then this tool needs some serious work.
