Best Free iPhone Games
Category: Free iPhone 3GS, Free Stuff, Fun & GamesA lot has changed since I made my first best free iPhone games list back in May, in particular the fact that I finally managed to upgrade to a 3GS (just before the iPhone 4 was announced – d’oh!) and really make the most of what is on offer.
I’ve left the original post intact below but here is my latest (as at 7th September) update on the best free iPhone games 2010 (one actually costs £0.59 but that I’ve made up for that by showing you how to get the iPhone for free – just visit my free iPhone page!).
We all love “top” list, so here are my top 5 best free iPhone games:
Fragger
A simple single player Worms style game where your task is to launch grenades at a range of enemy combatants who, thankfully, do not return fire.
Blow-up the opposition with your sweet grenade skills. Play through 30 levels of fun, physics-based, lite-puzzle goodness. With 3 Difficulties to beat, each with unlocking a new perk. Every higher difficulty gives you greater point rewards. Including 11 achievements to collect. And funny looking enemies.
Angry Birds
The next time somebody asks me why I love gaming on an iPhone, I am going to show them Angry Birds.
You get a funny little puzzler about flightless birds that attack egg-stealing pigs via a slingshot. The pigs hide in wooden, metal, and glass houses. Your power and trajectory determines the success of your birds’ attacks. A direct hit at a critical weak point can bring an entire structure down on top of a pig’s noggin, resulting in lots of pained oinks.
Flick Football
Definitely not a load of balls, the gameplay is simplicity itself: a ball is placed at various distances and angles from the goal, with various configurations of static defenders and a static or dynamic goalkeeper blocking the shot.
You flick the ball to kick. The longer the flick up the screen, the higher the ball travels, providing you with the opportunity to lop defenders. Alternately, flick a curve to bend it like Beckham but just make sure you don’t Messi it up!
Let’s Golf
Let’s Golf offers four full 18-hole courses. Two of them are available from the get-go: England and Fiji. The remaining courses in Scotland and America must be unlocked by playing tournament mode, which makes up the majority of the game.
These tournaments are not gratingly difficult to win, particularly on the easy setting, but do require a decent amount of practice to get the hang of the controls, swing meters, and the nuances of the game.
Doodle Jump
Control Doodler, a four-legged creature who bounces off an unending series of platforms.
Players must move their iPhone from side to side to move Doodler in the right direction, attempting to get as far as they can without falling.
Truly one of the best free iPhone games I, and hopefully you, will ever have the pleasure to get addicted to, it even comes with a warning in the iTunes store!
I can safely say that I’ve endured hours of testing (the wife would say “messing around on that damn thing!” to bring you this top five.
What is yours?
